OK I have to admit me and the wife had a few glasses of wine last night.
I woke up at 3 am this morning realising I had completely forgot to take my Levemir in the evening. Checked my BS and it was OK. I thought perhaps it was the alcohol, so decided to postpone any action...

This morning I am more intrigued than anything as I still havent taken any levemir (and no breakfast). and this is what my graph looks like....
My pancreas must have decided to give it one last shot before it completely throws in the towel :D.
I guess it was only 8 months since i got diagnosed so there is clearly some part of it still working

Looks like it @Jon-Manchester 🙂 I found my pancreas spluttered on for quite a while. The annoying thing was it seems to have spurts of working ok then suddenly not, so it couldn’t be relied on.

It’s nice to see though, isn’t it?

It is very nice! Last week I had a day when it didnt seem to matter how much I bolused the carbs i still kept going high so this is making a very pleasent change.

They’ve found that some people with Type 1 still have a few functioning beta cells years and years after diagnosis, which I find fascinating.

The annoying thing about the honeymoon period is the unpredictability of it, but as long as you’re prepared for that and test lots, you can enjoy the days when you can ‘see’ your own pancreas working 🙂 I found it cheered me up.

I think folk should stop dissing their pancreas. In terms of insulin production and Beta cells, that’s only about 3% by weight in the pancreas. The rest is digestive enzymes production. I speak as one whose other 97% of pancreas is well and truly scunnered. 🙂

Ive mentioned this a couple of times before, i found if you have a few drinks at night as the alcohol is leaving the system it dragged me down into hypos, some studies called this delayed hypoglycemia so maybe your normal lvls are attributed to this.

To give credit to my pancreas, its digestive enzyme production seems to have coped very well with my substantial increase of biscuits since lockdown... i actually wish it would cope less well 😉

For a long time I always thought a pancreas looked too big, if it only needed to produce and release insulin, unless it did also do something else too - but I never saw or heard anything that informed me what other than a general reference to 'other digestive enzymes' with no details of which, very occasionally - so I was very pleased to learn more about it when we started hearing about you mikeyB and eggyg etc - if none of you on here had the problems you do, then I'd still be baffled. Hence I expect others were in the same boat as me. I still have no desire to plod through medical reference books, they always use medical terminology for even minor things which despite being an intelligent woman I'd never use. eg never been to the Docs where I've started a discussion about hypertension - I have however discussed my BP any number of times. When I'm trying to understand written text, do not wish to have to look up every other word.
