Hi everyone
I have just created a blog which I have created to give guidance and hopefully motivation for Type 1's just starting out with exercise. It is in it's infancy at the moment but would appreciate it anyone here know any one starting out could point them in it's direction. Over the next two weeks I will be blogging a new lesson everyday as well as blogs with general information. For the hardened athletes it here it probably will be of no use to you for a couple of months until I have got the basics in place. However it will be extending to adventure running, triathlon, and x country training once this is done.

As I said it is only really basic at the moment with a little about me but as I said it will grow.

If anyone here has any ideas as to what lesson and sessions you would like me to cover your ideas would be appreciated

Cheers

Hi Andy, welcome to the forum 🙂 Best of luck with your blog! I'm a runner myself (but no Tough Guy events for me, although my femur did snap at mile 23 of the 2004 Stockholm Marathon 😱), also diagnosed out of the blue in 2008 a week away from my 'comeback' run in Stockholm - I've now crossed that race off my calendar! 🙂

Exercise is such a complex topic, adding to the available knowledge can only help. Are you aware of the site http://www.runsweet.com/ ?

That sounds painfull, how was the morphine?

Thanks for the link will have a look, always room for improvement :D

Good, blog, but WATER AND SNOW, you need help, made me cold just watching. Good on you, just starting the old personal punishment myself.

Hi Andy great blog, nice positive story.

You miss a lot out though:
I was confused, I went on a Daphne course and then I could do a tough guy challenge!

I bit there was a hell of a lot went on between theDaphne course and the 'tough guy challenge': you don't go from point A to point C overnight!

Tell us about the training, the days you wanted to give up, the things that went wrong / how you overcame them? Or maybe your daily ups and downs with whatever ur training for next!

I'm in the process of producing sprog number two (diabetic diagnosis, sprog 1 and sprog 2 happened in quite rapid succession for me) and when I've finished I want to go back to being the fit healthy person in control of my own body that I was before, so I'll follow with interest.

Hi Andrew

I'll be follwoing this closely as I'm a keen exerciser myself - although I dont' do running, I do high impact gym classes which are based in 1)dance and 2)self defence.

I'm trying hard these days to measure the effect each type of exercise has on my bGs and therefore and doing a lot of testing. I've not been able to get any pattern produced other than:

1. Low impact (ie pilates) classes don't really affect my bGs
2. hi impact classes bring my bG down by about 4-5mmol during the course of the class. I'm at an impasse now regarding the effects up to 5 hours after the class when cross matched with quantity and type of food (eg bowl of cereal v 2 chicken drumsticks and a low fat yoghurt v huge min meal etc etc) - as every time I think I've worked out a pattern and retest the next day, results are different.

Would welcome any research you do in these types of classes?

oh, also - forgot to say, have you seen the post in the Sports & Exercise forum about the exercise weekend at Loughborough uni in May? I reckon you'd really benefit from it.

I'm going 🙂

Hi I'm gonna bookmark your blog and read it at my leisure, i do weight training only now cos any cardio results in too much weight loss for me as i walk a lot anyway, run sweet is a good source of reference as mentioned before but i will read your stuff as have an interest as work in the industry myself.

Thanks for your posts.
I will fill the blanks in shortly and the ups and down as well as my formula that I have found works for me for my stable BG during and after exercise.

Just so everyone knows, this blog I've set up has two functions.

1. To give T1's starting out in exercise guidance not only with the effects exercise has on them but also how to exercise properly, rather than making it up as they go along.

2. I am starting a T1 Racing team. The team will be entering mainly running based events such as Tough Guy, Tough Mudder, Iron man and triathlon events. The team will be split into three categorises.
a) Athletes - People who will train & compete regular, looking to achieve good results in the competitions.
b) Fun runners - Who will train obviously but will participate in events for the purpose of self belief and if they like to raise money for charity.
c) Support members - Who just would like to show support or logical help.

As I said before the blog is in it's infancy but will grow really quickly as my body camera have arrive today so I can start posting my training sessions

Will keep you all informed

Andy
