When Joanne Leathers found out she had to live with a life-long medical condition, she received some sage advice from her mum. Joanne was eight when she was told she had type 1 diabetes, and would have to take insulin for the rest of her life.
"When I was young and would sometimes say 'it's so unfair I've got diabetes', my mum would reply 'we've all got something'," said Joanne, now 34, from Oakham.
