Cutting out spuds , rice , pasta .....not easy but getting there

Live alone so tend for main meals to pan fry or steam chicken , fish , pork etc with just one veg .....and that's it .......quick meals like this are the way things work for me ...does this sound familiar?

Frozen green beans or cali or spinach ......I am sorry to sound sexist but I am a single bloke and plenty of low carb veg and meat or fish is fine

I have also taken advice on here and batch cook the following as a regular veg portion

Cabbage sliced and diced , mini sprouts boiled for ten minutes

Drained then lightly fried in butter with mushrooms , onions , touch of garlic , touch of mixed herbs

Make a big pot of this

And that's it ......breast of chicken or fish etc , pan fried and served with the above

I think that's OK?

Any suggestions gratefully accepted

Other things you could add, peppers, courgettes, mangetout. You can buy bags of mixed stir fry veg.
What you are doing sounds pretty good.
I add a spoonful of peanut butter, soy sauce and a bit of chilli, small amount of water to the stir fry and meat to make a satay sauce

Never knew you could make an easy satay like that

Cheers

What about herbs and spices to add flavour? Or nuts or seeds to add texture?
Doesn’t have to add much more time to chop some basil or ginger or sprinkle some chilli sauce.
I do not see this as an anti-single guy thing. In my experience there is no difference to men and women’s cooking ability and taste. Some women like food plain. Some women have little interest in cooking. Some men like spice. Some men like flame, …
Learning a little about adding flavour gives you more choice and less reason, maybe, to avoid things you don’t like - it may just be the way you cook them.

I would also say the best way to cook veg is not to boil them or even go through the hassle or steaming. I cook cabbage, peas, beans, spinach, … in the microwave for a few minutes.

It's not so much little interest it's just I like food fast and snappy , I don't enjoy lots of preparation and if I can get garlic or chilli in a paste or puree I buy that instead of chopping up

Sprouts I just wash then boil them to soften them , I don't bother topping and tailing

Herbs wise I just buy chicken seasoning , fish seasoning or pork or Italian

Spinach.....I just buy that frozen and do it in butter in the microwave

Cooking has got to be simple for me or I just lose interest and start eating badly
