My legs gave way for a few seconds so that I fell

Has anyone got any suggestions as to why my legs gave way last night for a few seconds and I started to fall? My right leg gave way quickly followed by my left and I started falling. Mark was behind and tried to stop the fall but I carried on briefly falling due to lack of strength in legs. Fortunately Mark was able to stop me just as my knees were reaching the floor.
I hadn't been drinking any alcohol, had been drinking squash all day and sat out of the sun with fans on. BG was 8.0 when legs gave way.
Out of hours said GP would call back in two hours but it was a nurse practitionerr who didn't know why it had happened. She did wonder about the neuropathy but my legs have never just given way before apart from when I was child with a bad hypo.

Had annual telephone review with neurologist on Thursday before this but he didn't seem interested in the neuropathy but just my silent migraines.
I wasn't dizzy or anything else at the time of legs giving way - I felt totally fine.
It was extremely scary and I don't know who to speak to for help and advice.

Sorry to hear you had a scary incident... Maybe your gp can suggest the right type of person to speak to. Hope that you are feeling better and it was a one off... Sending positive thoughts x

Did you have any pins and needles anywhere either before or after? Any pain in your back or pelvis? Hopefully it’s just a one off and something like lack of potassium because of the heat but it suggests something neuropathic either stroke, slipped disc or general neuropathy. It’s worth a follow up with your GP on Monday.

I dunno but I've done that a couple of times, maybe it's the heat. Never done it before and I wasn't dizzy either. Scary.

Sorry to hear about your legs giving way on you @AJLang - that sounds very unsettling.

Did you get any visual disturbance?

Instinctively if not BP related / fainting, it does feel like it might be neurological/sensory to me? Hope you can get some ideas as to what may have been behind it?

Thank you very much everyone. The NHS have been brilliant with me today.
I’ve had a load of base line blood tests done this afternoon plus appointments made for BP, ECG and a physio assessment to double check ny back. This was all arranged by my GP surgery
Yesterday (Sunday) evening I emailed the neurologist and this morning (Monday ) his secretary phoned me. They’ve booked me for the next appointment which is in April but have also put me on the cancellation list to try to get me an earlier appointment.

Hope the bloods and checks help you to work out what happened.

Goodness April for the next appointment is a long way off! Let’s hope for a cancellation!

Glad you’re being well cared for and I hope you get some explanation but don’t have any more symptoms.

Thank you everyone. They phoned me 8am Tuesday with my blood test results. Despite having had a strong electrolyte drink the evening before my sodium level was low and so was the protein. They’re retesting my electrolytes on Tuesday as well as the kidney test.
My full blood counts were also abnormal so I’ve got to have them again in eight weeks, querying anaemia.
I feel so flipping exhausted, a lot more than usual and bouts of light headed. So bad that we’ve had to cancel the North Yorkshire holiday in September that we’d been so looking forward with everything that has happened this year. But there’s no point in going if I spend half the time in bed. We’re hoping to now go in April.

Sorry to hear you have put your holiday on hold until next year @AJLang .I hope the further tests bring clarity to your symptoms and future treatment.
You and Mark could do with some good news. Sending my best wishes for a good outcome.:care:

Having just read all the posts, my instant reaction, with knowing your other medical issues was a drop in BP

Similar was happening to me and when I checked my BP it was very low, carried on checking it for a week and still very low, so I sent my BP readings into the GP and he reduced my BP meds and I'm fine now with normal readings.

Just a thought

That must have been scary. I know nothing about Type 1 but wondered if it could be a hypo or, as they have suggested, anaemia. If you are tired anaemia is definitely a candidate for that. Also could it be dehydration as it is very humid at present. I know I don't drink enough.

That appointment is a long way away. Are they not treating it as urgent? I would have thought it should be but I am not a doctor.
