Relationship to Diabetes
Hi all,

My husband has Type 1 diabetes. He's in his early 40s now, and was diagnosed at around age 3. It gets more difficult to manage as he gets older, and I just wanted to see who else out there is married to or living with someone with diabetes. There isn't much around in the way of support - all the forums I've seen are for the people actually with diabetes.

Is anyone out there who might be willing to listen to my venting every now and again? Sorry to ask, but it can be really frustrating and worrying at times, and I usually feel unable to talk to friends and family about it.

Hi Tinky, welcome to the forum 🙂 You are more than welcome to ask questions or vent your frustrations here! Sometimes, partners or carers of people with diabetes are called 'Type 3' 🙂

Hello tinky, if you have any questions the guys in here are brilliant, it's also hard for the people who live with partners with diabetes, so come on here and ask away.

Sometimes there is a chance for spouses / partners etc to attend on one session of a week long DAFNE course (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) - if your husband hasn't been offered an education course, then encourage him to ask about it. Could be a good way for you to meet spouses of T1D people in real life, as well as here.
 
Hi Tinky i know my wife gets a bit stressed now & again. I really dont know how my parents put up with me 😱 Done things like 4000mile in 6 days on a motorbike, been around the bass rock on a stand up jetski, windsurfing & catamaran. I dont know how it must be but anything you want to ask please do. By the way welcome 🙂
