Hi everyone, Well my holiday to Vegas was interesting.
Firstly travelling with US airways, i made some sandwiches and took 2 bananas with me as i didnt know what the food situation was on the first flight and i knew that they didn't provide food on the 2nd 5 hour flight. anyway all was well until i went through customs in Philadelphia and they took my sandwich and banana off me!! so much for forward planning, there was nowhere in the airport to buy a wholemeal sandwich so i had a hot steak sandwich and didn't have anything on the 2nd flight..
Food in my hotel was great with lots of good options.. VERY clued up for diabetes, they had a whole section of sugar free/no added suger cakes.. I don't like cakes but was very impressed.
Did lots of walking so bloods were more or less ok, just high in the evenings.
Went to the crand canyon, at the little airport i asked for a diet coke, My husband said that he thought she had poured regular coke so i asked her to confirm that it was diet as i was diabetic.. she said that she was pretty sure.. I pointed out that the regular coke tap was dripping.. she tasted it and said " oh yes, it is regular, i should watch for that with diabetics"!!!! i don't think that it would have been that bad for me but i'm sure it could have made another person very ill indeed.. couldn't believe it.. in future i will only order diet coke if i can see the machine.
On the flight back to the uk they only had pastries, having not eaten for 12 hours (flight delayed) i asked if there was anything inside the pasrty, the attendant said, oh i don't know, cheese or apple! unbelievable, anyway luckily i had bought a grilled chicken mcdonalds and so have something to eat.
Anyway all in all Fab holiday, now i am starting to monitor foods, bloods last night were 14.8, highest yet (only monitoring for 3 weeks) 8.2 this morning and 12.2 after wholemeal toast.. is that ok? called nurse she said it was the heat and im probably dehydrated. I don't know what is high really or how to bring it down.
