HI friends,
i am due my 3 monthly test, the nurse said i never need to fast before a blood test again,
so how can i get a true reading to compare to the last one i had?
plus i am due my cholestral and anemia check,

thanx xx

You don't need to fast before HbA1c tests as whatever you have eaten that morning doesn't have any significant impact on the result 🙂 So don't worry, it will be a true comparison! Hoping for a good result for you! 🙂

They very often do other tests at the same time, so maybe the fasting was for a different test that they're doing this time.🙂

Hope it's a low number 🙂

thanx Rob and northerner, thats cleared the Hba1c up for me, but that about the cholesterol? any ideas plz?...i am just going by what the nurse said...never have to fast again for blood tests. i might have to check she meant cholesterol too xx

There was an article a little while ago which said that fasting was no longer considered necessary for cholesterol:

🙂

Very interesting, my GP / Blood Test Centre is still saying fast for the H1bac.

I've never had to fast for HBA1C and haven't had to fast for any of my recent cholesterol tests. I hope that all of the results are good for you.

Hope there has been an improvement...........🙂

so do i Nova!!, i have worked hard, and thats all i can do really🙄

i will make appointment for nxt friday, it fits in better with the things i have to do, thanx all xx

I Had to fast for my last cholesterol test back in May.

I have been told for years there is no need to fast but every time I have something to eat before the blood test I am called back a re-test!!! I just find it easier to book the earliest appointment, fast, get the bloods done and then have breakfast in work.

In my mind, it is like for like test/results and fasting doesn't bother me that much.
