Really pleased today HbA1c is 41 and my cholesterol is down to 4 it has never been that low.
I joined Slimming World 12 weeks ago and have lost 15lb really feeling happy with myself today.
I was put on Metformin in June would love to stop taking it will just have to be patient
I would love to cut down on my Simvastatin as well

Welldone Susie you are doing brilliantly🙂

Excellent results all round Susie! Really pleased for you 🙂

I took the decision to stop taking my simvastatin when my cholesterol dropped below 4, with the approval of my doctor. These days it is around 4.5 but I have a good ratio of HDL to LDL so my consultant isn't pressing me to start taking them again - it might be worth discussing to see what side of the fence your doctor sits on as opinions vary. Some are very pro and some very anti, I lie in the middle really. If they are causing you side effects you can try changing to a different type, plus there are other drugs available that help lower cholesterol called fibrates. I took the view that the benefits were uncertain for me and preferred not to take them.

Well done susie 🙂

Great results! Congratulations 🙂

Simvastatin

Think I might ask if I can reduce my Simvastatin as I now take 160mg at night they were increased when I was diagnosed diabetic so would prefer to reduce to 80mg if they resist stopping them all together. Time will tell

Must admit, I thought the maximum dose of simvastatin was 40mg these days. It was when they started increasing mine to that level that I began to get side-effects. Might actually be worth asking the pharmacist what he/she thinks as they are often more clued-up than GPs 🙂

Susie, how old are you? I am not being rude but there are studies that say that women after menopause do not benefit from statins and if you are of childbearing age you should not be on them because they are teratogenic which means that they interfere with embryonic development should you get pregnant.
