I have been to the doctors and she has put it down to a skin problem as my head has been a bit itchy too. She thought nits at first (yak) but my daughter and no one else around me as got them and she couldn't see any.

Anyway its been getting worse and now i'm losing hair so easily just running my fingers through my hair brings out a clump. My hair is normally thick and curly and i can already feel it starting to thin.

I'm using coal tar at the moment but just washed my hair and broke down as i've been brushing the air out.
Its really getting me down i don't want to be without hair.

Don't panic! I had this happen soon after diagnosis too - I googled it and it seems to be quite common. I think it's because your scalp is dry when you have been dehydrated so long. It was quite distressing at the time, but it stopped falling out eventually. Boots do an "expert" range shampoo and conditioner for dry scalp and it helped and was quite soothing.

Snap had same issue get it occasionally still but I use what pigeon mentioned

I have been panicking but mostly upset and anger, just another thing to happen and i love my hair its the only bit about me that i actually liked.

This is another reason I knew something was very wrong with my daughter:( She always had lovely thick hair - so thick when she had nits (they all do - yuk) it was impossible to 'find' her scalp to properly treat her. Then it started to come out almost in handfuls everytime she has a bath and her hairbrush was a nightmare. You could easily see her scalp at her temples and her plait was no bigger than my finger (after having been so thick it was hard to do)

Luckily it started to thicken up again quite quickly - probably by a year after Dx was back to 'normal' - lovely and thick now - so much so that she gets annoyed there is so much of it🙄

What I'm trying to say is - don't panic it will be OK - go back to the doctor if you can't find anything to help with the itching.

Take care Xx

Thank you all for your replies its reassured me a lot, will pick up some of that stuff from boots tomorrow.

I can't imagine anything more distressing than loosing hair and you don't want to. I hope you are able to get some answers and some help.

The same happened to me about 2 months after diagnosis. I was told it is because when you are ill, before diagnosis, your body concentrates on keeping the vital parts going and stops with the hair cycle. Then once you are receiving treatment and your body is 'working' again, your body thinks hey look at all this old hair I must replace and suddenly instead of a few strands a day it comes out in clumps. That is what I was told. It will get better.

I was diagnosed nearly 18 years ago, but I can very clearly remember my hair coming out quite alarmingly a month or so after diagnosis. As others said, it soon got back to normal (I have really thick hair). Seems it's common thing to happen!
