A couple of weeks ago,I mentioned on the Waking Average thread I had been given a new meter from my surgery. Bog standard type unlike my Accu-Chek mobile which was prescribed to me by the hospital. I thought it was to replace my spare meter but when I went to order my cassettes they sent me strips for the new metre which I hadn’t even picked up! I thought it was a mistake so spoke to pharmacy to see if they had ordered the right thing, they ordered more cassettes, more strips came! They sent them back and suggested I spoke to surgery. I must admit I got a bit upset with it all as I feel I have had to fight for everything. Although the Diabetes Clinic wrote to my GP I know I’m still down as Type 2. Mr Eggy got on the case and did loads of research for me re the type of metre I should have and why. I eventually got through to the prescribing team, you usually have to leave a message but I wanted to speak to someone so the receptionist put me through. I spoke to a really lovely lady and explained I was a “ weirdo” diabetic and didn’t fit into any pigeon hole and I needed the cassettes as I need the Accu-Chek mobile for accuracy. She couldn’t have been more apologetic and said of course I could and has put me down as a “ weirdo” to stop me falling through the net again. :DThen she asked me if I was X’s mum, now considering we have the most common surname in Cumbria I was astounded! I must be a legend in my own lunchtime! 😉 I feel so relieved I don’t have a battle to fight this time.🙂

Great story @eggyg and illustrates a universal truth, you have just got to speak to the right person. Do you think we should get "weirdo" as a diabetes type on the system?

Definitely!

Well it's on the forum already in the person of the previous Admin, it's just the NHS we need to educate!

But as most T2 low carbers know, together with any number of their observers, some things take quite a time to penetrate it's cranium .......
