I have just called my GP for the results of my 1st HbA1c test...it came back at 87, which translates into 10.11%.....

I am confused now! I know it's nothing to be confused about, and I know it needs to be lower...can someone tell me what it should be...I will probably be called in to see the GP soon as they have the results of the GAD test too, but I need to ask the question now!

Hi Doddy

Best bet is just to keep chipping away at it. Moving it gradually toward the 'non-diabetic' range if possible.

Guidelines in the UK are for an A1c below 48 (6.5%). You should be set an individual target by your Dr/clinic really that takes individual circumstances into account (risk of hypoglycaemia for example).

For many years the advice was for an A1c below 59 (7.5%).

People without diabetes would have an A1c between 3.5% and 5.5% (below 37)

Thanks 🙂

Is 10% not excessively high? Is this a level that could cause problems if left. The answer to this is probably yes, but i like things in perspective!
