Hello, my name is Garry and this is my first day. I was trying to find out if weetabix was good or bad, so I looked on google and found this place. It helped out so I became a member.

Hope to get more help on here in the future and also maybe I can help somebody else at some point. Who knows?

Garry 🙂

Hi Garry, welcome to the forum and glad you found us 🙂 Have you been put on any medication for your diabetes, and how are you managing with your blood sugar levels? Please feel free to ask any questions you have and we will endeavour to help. Weetabix is a bit misleading, because for most people it will cause a rapid blood sugar rise, yet it is currently being advertised as 'slowly releasing energy over 4 hours' - I have a mind to question that claim!

Diabetes can be managed best if you have access to a testing meter. Has your doctor or nurse given you one and prescribed strips?

Not on medication yet. I have got a tester, in fact I had three weetabix almost two hours ago and I'm going to test my blood in about fifteen minutes.

Thanks for the welcome.

The nurse says I don't have to change my diet too much, however I definitely do need to up my exercise.

Hi there and a warm welcome to the forum from me

Welcome to the forum Garry,

Your testing will tell you whether you need to change your diet or not, but exercise will probably help you maintain good control and even improve it. It certainly did for me.

Andy 🙂

Diabetes can vary from person to person in their ability to tolerate different kinds of food well, so it is essential to start with basic advice and then refine it according to the information revealed by your meter. Food that may appear healthy may not be good for you diabetes-wise e.g. fresh fruit juice. Here's a useful guide to testing efficiently:

Plus, there is a lot of good reading in our Useful links thread, but try not to take everything in at once or you may find you have 'information overload' 🙂 Start with the basics, and ask questions as they occur to you.

Welcome to the forum Garry.

Hi Garry, welcome aboard. My Diabetic Nurse said my diet was fine, however with help from these guys and my self testing, I have modified it dramatically now and feel more comfortable about my readings.

I was allocated very few testing strips, so buy most myself, as do many.

Thanks everyone. I don't feel quite on my own anymore!

The results are in from the weetabix.....9.3 two hours after eating. Looks like I won't be having weetabix for a long time.

Welcome Garry.
Remember it's not just about food type, but portion size - you might be OK with 2 weetabix instead of 3.

What was the advert about eating 3 shrreded wheat ? I think weetabix are pretty ok for you but wouldnt have 3 unless i was climbing mountains 🙂🙂

Hi Garry. As a relative newbie myself am still getting to grips with what I can and cannot eat. You've come to a great place for support and advice as I am sure you will find! Testing is the only way you will find out about your individual tolerances. The suggested reading already given is also good for information and of course the guys on here have a wealth of knowledge between them. As I have quickly learnt, no question is considered too trivial on here so ask away! Katie
