Hi there again well went to my DESMOND day yesterday it was an all day from 9-30 to 4-00 but I had to leave early because of work but it was all very friendly and a nice bunch of people there, went over more or less of what I already knew but still very interesting when we came to the bit about self monitoring? well to cut a long story short they both were on my side but as it was between me and my doctor they would not come down on my side I can't blame them! I did have a chat to some of the people there at dinner time and most of them said that they could not be bothered to fight with there doctors over this and all of them just paid the cost, but they could see my point that I could not afford it...! so I will not be able to use this in my letter to my doctor one of the instructors did tell me that up to about 2 years ago they use to give away monitors and strip at these meeting but it was getting to pricey but I feel that it was freebie by the monitoring company's that they were giving away that's just in my view...! anyway will be finishing off my letter to the doc's over the week end and handing it in some time next week....! I'm still considering send some form of letter to my local Councillor I have not made up my mind yet ? I don't know if this is an election year !!! still-made a few more friends will let you know when I do ( if you are getting bored with me let me know!! ) look after yourself

Not bored at all Pinky, I wish you every success. As I've said before, anyone who is motivated to test and try and improve their management should be given the means to do it, and it shouldn't be left to personal income - the NHS is supposed to be the great leveller and everyone should be treated equally well. Really, their only justification in so many cases is cost and it is so short-sighted and deceitful to suggest that it's unnecessary. If test strips were 100 for ?1 there would be no problems 😡

Keep us updated! 🙂

As northy said your not boring...nice to see other people on here in the early stages of t2, my desmond day is in a couple of weeks and to be honest like you said there just telling you what you allready no, for me it's so the misses can understand more about it all, i still really don't understand why everone cannot be given the opportunity to monitor there diabetes as i said in you last thread my nurse has told me to keep checking and have repeat prescriptions for lances and strips, i no every case is different but it's not like i have bad diabetes like some people on here, but i guess money is a key point but not the best in the long run in my opinion.

I don't have a problem getting the lancets and strips.... our DSN and Docs believe in giving control to the patient.

shame you have to fight for them. good luck to you ... and please keep us informed x
