So it's been a year and 3 months since diagnosis, it was a tough time for about 6 months for me personally. We almost lost her and with how everything happened so quickly I didn't process my feelings which don't worry I have now!
However my daughter is struggling with it, she hates that she has diabetes but does understand that she needs insulin to be healthy, there's only one other child in her school but he's a little younger than her. There's also a staff member who has type 1 as well and she's had little chats with her but it's not the same.
Basically what I'm asking is, are there any parents on here to a child of 8/9 who would like to have a pen pal? I think it'd really help her to be able to chat to someone who's in the same situation as her, I would do the group's the nurses host but due to covid obviously that's not feasible.

My daughter is now 10 but happy to chat. PM me for contact details.

We had an ok few months at diagnosis but it really hit her that was forever about 3 months in and she had a terrible few weeks. Everything settled again though and she’s been (mostly) fine since.

Use the team psychologist for you and her.

What a great idea! Hope it helps them both. :D
