Normally my levels are like mountains and valley's, recently been struggling on what to eat as seem to have gone off food that I normally like. Tonight I fancied a curry, chicken jalfrezi with plain naan bread, curtsy of a local budget super market, broke the don't eat white types of bread with a twin pack of naan's and the chicken jalfrezi no chips.

This should of sent my levels sky rocketing, but no I have to be different 8.0 before tea which was not good. For a supermarket curry it was very nice, now paying the price of the naans after tea a grand level of 6.3, I just can't win. 😱😱😱

Bet that doesn't happen next time! 😱 🙂

Naan bread is one of my 'never again' foodstuffs, sadly :(

Wow! Amazing. There's a peculiar feeling of victory (underlined with a good deal of confusion) I always find when 'one of those meals' works out so well.

Goes a little way to offset all the times when meticulous preparation and careful food choices results in complete BG chaos!

White bread types of food is off my list of what I can't have normally, it's going though the fed up of food phases and have something that I really fancy and see what the consequences are after. The 6.3 was a total shock and will no doubt never happen again, this D does some crazy things sometimes normally the expected pain in the back side then this happens. 😱

Im amazed. I think you should repeat the experiment , all in the name of science of course :D

Will have the curry again as it was very nice for a shop bought one, I avoided the other type of curry they had as it's more yogurty based and don't get on well with some foods with a fair amount of dairy products in them. It's now what to eat with the curry, no way will it be rice of any description.

Aye, we're all different, but do carry on with your brave experiments. I'm with Northerner, Naan bread does send my BG soaring, but I now bolus for it fairly accurately. I like the challenge:D

Mine too. I have one chapatti now, usually about 25 grams of carbs and not as filling.

This is the annoying thing, for many years I have been trying to get onto insulin, as just don't get on with gliclazide and already on a triple whammy of tablets just for the diabetes. There's no predicting when my pancreas goes on strike or decides that it will work too well. Had support from some doctors then get the rug pulled from under my feet just as it appears there's light at the end of the tunnel. I am fed up with the weight gain as instead of eating normally as one can with D, I can often end up eating to my levels, some times leaving or skipping meals until later on and other times having to eat to the drop in levels. :(

I thought I was doing something wrong until I read your thread. I too am all over .last weekend (sat) I tested first thing 06.45 and it was 6.3 I had NOTHING to eat or drink ,except a glass of tap water. and 8 1/2 hours later at 15.30 I tested and the reading was 7.6. I am totally confused.
I am starting to find my rocket booster foods though (white rice, white bread) I am testing regularly in the 10-11s an hour after eating so am still trying to find my way.
got my first apt with diabetic nurses on 14/8 so hope to get some guidance,

There is a thing called dawn phenomenal, in where your liver dumps some glucose into your system to give your body a morning kick start, and your measuring this level, by not eating breakfast your liver could be dumping more glucose to feed your system.

It's a good time to ask the nurse any questions you have, worth making a note of any questions you have as possibly you will get to the appointment and your mind goes blank. Instead of testing 1 hour after eating try testing at the 2 hours after food, as it's the more recommended interval so you will get a better picture of what foods are doing to you.

Some foods will not reach there peek levels after 1 hour and require longer to absorb which a nice steady slow release of carbs is the way forward, things like white bread do have a rapid spike and with me and still show a rapid rise even after 2 hours, I don't like rice of any form and don't know what it is like for me, for a lot of others it's in the white bread category.

Glad you enjoyed your curry Pav, sounds like you could repeat it at some point 🙂 It really isn't fun having this wretched disorder is it? Sorry you are having some confusing readings, not good.

Part of every day life with D, used to crazy readings, there's standard crazy, and the weird crazy that should not happen but does on occasions.
