Things are not going very well for me control wise at the moment. I had my hba1c done on Tuesday and it was 9.0. I got the contraception and don't even consider baby no two talk from the doctor.

I just looked at my 7 day average on my meter and it was 14.3 :(:(:(. And that is despite having 4 hypos in the last week. I have been feeling pretty stressed and run down but I am not sure which is the cause and which is the effect. I think my psychiatrists stupid plan of only testing once a day affected my hba1c, but a can't blame that for 7day average.

I am going to increase my breakfast ratio and my levemir doses tomorrow. I have to do something about this now, although it is tempting to just let it go until I get on the pump.

I am not really expecting any response to this, sometimes I think it just helps putting things down in writing.

Hi Rachella, I hope you feel better for telling us.

It is difficult enough keeping control at the best of times, but is harder when there are other considerations. Not sure what to suggest, but I'm here to give moral support, which I hope hels.

Sorry to hear about the disappointing result. Stress can have a horrible effect on blood glucose control and it's so hard to keep trying if all you see is undesirable levels "slaaping you in the face".
How long did you keep up the ridiculous experiment ( was it testing only once or twice a day) If you have been doing this for a while you can certainly blame it as you have not been getting enough information to safely lower your levels- does that idiot expect you to take what at times coulld be an overdose just in case your levels ar e on the high side?
Have you thought about doing some fastiing basal tests ? Still worth trying to get a grip on mdi even if pumping soon- would probably make transition smootherr

I really feel for you at the moment, its must be difficult............

I would look for a problem area and tackle that first. Are you still testing once a day?Do you believe this has helped in anyway? Are you writing your results down anywhere?

A lot of questions, that you dont need answer to be honest, but some food for though, I hope your readings settle down soon.........🙂

Hi Rachelha I'm sorry that you are having such a difficult time. Once you've checked your basal rates you should get some idea about where the problems are occurring. I hope that you find yourself being able to focus on the positive things that are happening in your life xx

Hi Rachel, Sorry to hear that you are struggling. One test a day in my opinion is not enough, but I understand the point of trying not to test too often, I test way too often at the moment and it probably isn't helping me! Its definitely worth trying to get things a little better before you start on the pump, if nothing else, at least you will be used to the hard work 😱 Don't try to fix everything at once, do one small step at a time. ((((Hugs))))

Hi Rachel.

I guess your psych thought it would ease the stress a bit but didn't understand the implications of 'driving blind' so to speak. Maybe test as often as you need to but allow yourself a wider range of BGs before correcting, so you're not pressuring yourself to keep such tight control.

Keep writing it here if it's helping. It's a healthy coping strategy.🙂

Could you get soem respite so you can concentate on you for a little while ?

Not sure what your situation is.

Rob

I had huge amounts of insulin last night to correct from a reading of 20 before bed and ended up at 1.8. Today is not going so badly though. I have upped my morning levemir by 2 units and was 7.8 before lunch 🙂

I am going to try and start keeping a record of things in the online DAFNE diary again.

There is so much going on in my life at the moment, (returning to work, new house, pump, new job) my own health has been completely pushed into the background. I did the testing once a day experiment for 6 weeks, and I think that also made me block out the D, which does not work. It raises its ugly head if you dont give it a certain amount of attention.

I have to remember I will cope better with all the changes if I am healthy and not a walking zombie.

Thanks for all your comments.

Are you going to make a formal complaint regarding the unqualified professional who gave you such poor advice? and perhaps put in a word to your diabetes clinic regarding this as well?

Hi Rachel,

For what it's worth, everyone I know who's diabetic & has had a baby / has a small child has admitted at some point to their control hitting the rocks to some degree... it's just soooo hard juggling everything! Add to that all the additional stresses you're facing & it's no surprise it's been a challenge! I bet if you just do what you suggested, try the dafne approach again & allow yourself to put yourself first for a bit, things will fall back into place sooner than you'd think. 🙂 I know for me, it took a while to learn that actually I could leave baby howling at me for a minute or two, if it meant I got to check& correct my BG, and actually if I did maintain that discipline we both ended up happier in the long run lol! It's not easy, but this is a good place to let off steam when the juggling gets a bit much!

Right, now I'm feeling guilty & a bit hypocritical, and as the kids are both in bed, I'm off to write down my results from today to see if they make any sense! 😉:D

Take care,

Twitchy xx

I agree it does help to write down things , hope things start to improve 🙂
