A family tragedy has spurred Burnley mum Sharon Bullas to become an ambassador to combat diabetes.

It is just over a year ago that Sharon lost her 19-year-old son James after complications from the illness, and now her bosses at the Tesco Extra store in Burnley have asked her to lead its “Big Blue Bash” for World Diabetes Day on Friday.

“Diabetes is something nearly everyone has heard of, but there is a lot of confusion about,” said Sharon, who has worked at the store for 11 years.

“James had Type 1 and that affects children and teenagers. Type 2 affects older people, mainly people carrying extra weight, and it can bring on blindness or even lead to losing limbs.

Hmm...a bit misleading - Type 1 affects adults as well...
