A Radstock mother whose son has type 1 diabetes has backed a national campaign to make sure more children with the condition are diagnosed before they become seriously ill.
Emma Clarke is supporting Diabetes UK's efforts to highlight the main symptoms ? or four Ts ? Toilet; Thirsty; Tired; and Thinner.
She is helping to get across the message to parents that if a child is going to the toilet a lot, has increased thirst, is more tired than usual or is losing weight, it could be a sign of type 1 diabetes.
Early diagnosis can lead to treatment to bring the condition under control and stop diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a life-threatening condition, from developing. About a quarter of children already have DKA when they are diagnosed.
Mrs Clarke is passionate about the campaign after her seven-year-old son Taylor, pictured, was diagnosed three years ago.
