Hello. My husband and both my children have a genetic form of MODY called hnf4a. It means that they are not diabetic yet but will become so when they get a little older. I would love to connect with any other parents or people with the same form of diabetes and ask some general advice. Thank you!

Hi, welcome to the forum. I am an MODY but I am an HNF1b type (I think, thats what the dr says I am anyway!). Im afraid I'm not a parent though. If there are any specific questions you have ask away. I probably wont know the answer but hopefully someone will.

Thank you Stitch147 for your quick reply. I think I'm more interested in connecting with any other parents who have been through or are going through the same thing. My daughter suffered from very low blood sugar when she was born and continues to drop quite low (we can tell from her colour and moods!!) so just some advice on how they dealt with school and eating would be great!

There is a parents section on the forum might be worth posting in there if you havent already.

I am hnf1-b and I have twin daughters who refused to be tested even though they both show symptoms that could relate to this.

Hi Owen. That's must be worrying for you. Luckily our children were so little they had no choice but to be tested - although my son now is refusing to have his hba1c checked as he is scared of the needle!

I managed to get a colleague of mine to check Hayley's bg when she had a riding accident. I am more worried about Sophie as she has more than one symptom. They have the attitude that they will only deal with it when it becomes unavoidable and will carry on enjoying life until then.
I believe HNF4-a is easily controlled with low amounts of gliclazide or similar.

Welcome! Well I have learned there is more than one type of MODY, did not realise this!

Anyone either on 'Children with Diabetes' or the JDRF sites who could assist, @MODY mum ?
