Hi

I have to teach my hubby tonight how to test my BS. The only worry I have is that the multiclick pricker I use tends to be quite sharp I.e seems to hit at such a speed it makes me sore. I am not sure if mine is broke. When I look at it there is a bit of needle sticking out the end and my question is - is there supposed to be? I am wondering if it is supposed to be totally hidden, then maybe it is broke.

Its the sort with the blue and white drum.

Thanks

Hi Lucy,
If its the same as Alex's ( it sounds like it) - you can alter the depth at which the pricker goes in - perhaps yours is set at the highest one which would hurt more.😱🙂Bev

Ooh, that doesn't sound right - no needle should stick out at any time apart from the moment you press the button. It's the Aviva multiclix yes?

I'd try changing the drum, if something still sticks out it might be worth getting a new finger pricker.

Yes thats the one - quick question how do you move the drum to change to the next needle?

Sorted Sorry ignore that last one - just read no 3!
Sorted now thanks and hubby just tested successfully.

His question is though what does he do if I am low, and how low is low enough to do something.

I am not on any meds - Just a peculiar case!

Anything below 4.0 have two or three jelly babies or equivalent fast acting sugar (10-15g carbs).

If you're low, and you can eat, then have jelly babies or 4-5 glucose tablets, i.e. 15g of fast carbs. Some people like 150ml of coke or fruit juice.

If you can't eat because you're semi-concious, then it's 999 time.

Thanks Ergates, I think there may have been an issue with one needle in the drum that was sticking out. I have twisted to a new needle now and all is fine again - no more sore fingers for a bit!

I must remember to stop dropping the darn thing!

Thanks again - hubby is feeling a bit more informed now - after I told him it is me that has to eat the JB's that is! He will try anything believe me!:D

Should we all be showing our partners how to test us. I never get lows.......lowest I have every had and that was tonight is 5.9??

You should be OK if you are not on medication like insulin or gliclizide that can give you hypos - unless you are 'awkward' like Lucy! 😉

No Sheilagh - As I said I am just a peculiar case and although diagnosed as type 2 have other things going on to that are under investigation - unfortunately this means I suffer hypo's. Sorry if I worried you. If you read my today post re being unwell it will explain a bit more.

Phew.

Thanks for the update Northerner and Lucy

Just as well Northerner as I dont like Jelly Babies :D
