MP Keith Vaz is calling for improvements to care for diabetic patients.
New figures show that on average more than two amputations a month were carried out between January and September last year.
Leicester East MP Mr Vaz, a type two diabetes sufferer, vowed to help the city reduce diabetes amputations by 50 per cent in five years.
He said: "I have not had my foot check this year.
"I will be booking it as soon as possible and hope that Leicester GPs with diabetic patients urge them to do the same.
