Moving on to a new pump - what does anyone recommend (Minimed v Omnipod)?

Hi everyone - I'm fairly new to the forum (well, been a "watcher" rather than a poster but hoping to change that if time allows!!)

As my warranty has just expired on my insulin pump, my hospital are asking me which way I would like to go for a new one.

I have been offered the OMNIPOD or the Minimed 670g with CGM.

As a very keen runner (half marathons fairly regularly), biker and swimmer the CGM option on the minimed looks great as my blood sugar always dives quickly when I exercise and the OMNIPOD doesn't seem to have a function such as this. Wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the choice between the two?

I have had a 640g for the last 4 years and the minimed oone previous to that too which makes me think that Minimed is the way forward (can't argue with their customer service either as they literally drove a replacement pump to me to Durham on the same day!!)

Any recommendations would be gratefully received

If I were offered a chance of funded CGM I would jump at it.

There are mutterings about some of the slightly cautious 'fixed' values on the MM670G, but the user reviews and results I have seen from it are really really impressive.

Plus if you have known and liked the MM640G then quite a lot of the pump stuff will be fairly familiar (certainly in manual mode) but with the added benefit of auto mode.

Omnipod seems to really appeal to people who don't get on with tubing. But I prefer the flexibility of location of a tubed pump (I don't have to worry about leaning/sleeping on a tubed infusion set in the way I *think* I would with a pod).

I think Omnipod will send you a sample dummy pod to apply and wear if you are interested considering that further. It won't integrate with CGM in this version though (however I believe a future partnership with Tidepool Loop and Dexcom might be in the offing?)

For what it’s worth omnipod is no longer being offered to new users in our trust. I can’t remember the exact reasons but I think it was because it can perform poorly for some people (those who have it are allowed to renew for 4 years). But yeah if you can get funded CGM that would be amazing.

My hospital didn't offer the 670g so I've got another 640g but with the Guardian 3 transmitter and sensors replacing the Enlite sensors I used previously. The G3 sensors so far for the past 3 months since I started using them have been incredibly accurate and I'm very happy with them as I don't have any hypo awareness so am totally reliant on the cgm to try and keep me safe.

thanks guys much appreciated. I am not hypo aware so our trust offer me the CGM funded (I currently have Freestyle Libre and have found this unbelievable for helping improve my HbA1c.

From researching I expect I will go with the MM670G and CGM as it just seems like the right thing to do - particularly as with the exercise aspect of this should help me massively looking at the reviews.

I've had the 640G since August and so far customer service gets 0/10 I moved over from the Animas pump who were fantastic. So far with Medtronic I have never had a quote from the rep re the sensors so have gone with the Dexcom instead, I have rung for supplies to be told there is a long delay for the cannulas I use and no idea when next in stock so tuff luck was the phone jockey's attitude I rang again to be told I did not have a Medtronic pump so no supplies could be sent.
I had to ask my DSN to sort it out and the area rep rang to apologise and send me a different cannula. I then had 5 separate deliveries of cannulas and cartridges.
So far not impressed.

Looking on the Brightside I would hope things will improve.

Wow that's crazy! I could only give their customer service 10/10 as they've been tremendous with me! Just goes to show how different people experience things.

Hope you get yourself sorted
