Libre update
I had an email today from Abbott about updating my Libre app and reader.
I read the bit about what I needed on my phone, including NFC.
Needless to say my basic Smart(ish) phone does not have that.
It is time for an upgrade but I have some questions

I have found the level of phone I need in order to have NFC
I understand that I would need to have mobile data or WiFi in order to scan on my phone.
My data package is very minimal (3gbytes) but I realise that I may need more.
Abbott said it needed ‘a few mb’ but could not specify how much.
Does anyone know what I would need?

Pump sensors
I am looking to change pump and intermittently use the associated sensors linking to the pump.
I am assuming this also needs data on or WiFi.
Does anyone know how much data I would need

To update the app on your phone will take a few mb to download from the internet. To take readings from your sensor the phone will use NFC. NFC does not require mobile data or WiFi. NFC is the same technology that allows you to make contactless payments on your bank card.
For linking the sensor to a pump, bluetooth is more typical.
Again bluetooth does not use mobile data or WiFi.
Your 3gb data allowance is more than adequate.

I agree, I think the data alllowance you already have would be more than sufficient. The only requirement for data would be in uploading any scan information to your Abbott account, and I’m pretty sure that could wait for WiFi, and if not would be a handful of Bytes per scan I’d expect.

The MM640G sensors commmunicate via RF not Bluetooth, and specifically *cannot* communicate with phones. Much to several users frustration!

There is a version of Medtronic’s CGM that uses Bluetooth and can be read by iPhone, but that is a standalone and does not connect with/integrate with MM640G. I’m also pretty sure it can’t be used with the MM670G yet, though they’ve been promising a version that *will* allow it for several years.

Thank you @everydayupsanddowns and @Benny G

With Medtronic pumps what do you need to have alongside it?
- Without the sensors
Is the Bolus calculator on the pump or BG tester?
Does the glucose meter transmit the level to the pump

- with the sensors in use
The level is transmitted all the time to the pump
What do you need to have with you?

Having had a yo yo day from hypo to hyper whilst out for the day walking,
it would have been lovely to have had alarms to pick these up earlier.

As I said previously when talking about remote boluses Sue the bonus wizard is only on the meter.

You get a contour Next USB meter that pairs with the pump and (optionally) can wirelessly send BG values to the pump to pre-populate the bolus wizard.

With sensors - yes. The values are continually sent to the pump which shows sensor glucose and a trace of the previous 3hrs on the screen.

Screenshots on the blog if you can’t envisage what I’m talking about!
