Hi guys I’ll be moving to a flat end of the month and now I am diabetic I’m concerrned about getting a new doctor and whether I’ll get the same treatment at the new doctors. Now I can call the doctor and get a call back pretty much straight away is this the same in all doctor surgery’s cuz I’m diabetic? I’ll need to change where my prescription goes to but I’m not sure if I need to tell my doctors I’ll be moving and getting a new surgery and they’ll give me a repeat prescription to hand in or if it’ll just be done automatically without needing a new prescription does anyone have any experience with this?

It's been a long time since I moved GP surgery. The NHS page https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/nhs-services-and-treatments/how-do-i-change-my-gp/ just says to sign on with the new surgery (and doesn't mention other things like repeat prescriptions, etc.).

However, such information ought to be with your notes so I wouldn't expect there to be any problems with that.

Whether you can phone the doctor and get a call straight away will likely vary depending on surgeries. I seem to remember when I last did that it was same day but not really straight away, but I've not done it often and I don't think the issue was in any way urgent (or related to diabetes). (For diabetes stuff I think I'd contact the DSN team anyway.)

(Nothing wrong with talking to your current doctor. I think I probably would just for politeness. And they might be able to offer some help.)

No idea in the current climate, so I'd certainly recommend getting a good stock of medication in, before you physically move. Depends how far you're moving as to whether your existing surgery can be particularly helpful or not. Think most decent surgeries are glad to have us cos they get extra for folk with chronic conditions though!

Surgeries all work differently , as others suggested get extra before the move if you can.
@Grannylorraine parents moved just as lock down happened they managed to register with new Doctors no problem, she I believe is no longer posting.

I think you should shop around - are you moving far? You may be able to stick with your existing surgery until you've and settled in, which would give you a chance to have a look at the options in your new area, and ask them a few pointy questions 🙂

As I recall, there was questions about medication on the form for my (then) new practice. Shoud really be in your notes.
Something I've got into the habbit of, is having a list on my phone/tablet. Along with my condidtions. (As been having reqular & on occation loads of hospital appointments, as well as GP. Different hospitals & different areas. Appointment letters always say bring a list.)
And, having typed them up, I print out copies. Though my toner for my printer had run out, & I didn't bother for a bit.
Short version, do a typed list for them, & keep a copies.
Also, try keeping the tear off bit from the paper prescription you hand to the pharmacist. That may very well have all your meds printed on it. (Though I've not really bothered. I should.)

My latest repeat scrip tear off bit, gets filed in the medicines cupboard tucked neatly (cos it's 2 pages LOL) between the stacked test strips boxes and the side of the cupboard. I chuck the previous one away, when emptying the latest supply into the cupboard, cos my pharmacy does that for every single prescription they dispense.
