after weeks of waiting for my tongue biopsy i got a phone call from my surgeon this morning with news that it is cancer.

on the cancer scale of 1 to 10 i am at 5 they are looking at aggressive procedure of removing part of my tongue to try and stop the spread.

my family have been notified and my life is now in the lap of the gods.

still shaking as i type this.

So sorry to hear of your devastating diagnosis. I hope I can offer you a glimmer of hope as my brother in law had a diagnosis of cancer of the base of the tongue about 7 years ago, he had some pretty aggressive treatment, chemo and targeted radiotherapy but has fully recovered. He was in his late sixties at the time.
Keep as positive as you can, you can get through this.

Oh dear @mikeydt1 - I’m so sorry to hear your news.

@mikeydt1 The important thing is that they have found it and can treat it and have a plan to do so. It is in the lap of the Gods as you say but also the hands of a good medical team. Hoping that your treatment goes as smoothly as possible and that you have a very positive outcome.
I can totally understand you being shocked and frightened but you are tough and you will get through this. You can't keep a good man down!

I honestly can't even begin to imagine what you're going through but hope your Surgeon will nip things in the bud so to speak, to halt the spread of the disease. In the meantime take care and look after yourself the best you can.

leadinglights and Jenny i will take solace in that they were able to nip this in the bud. it was just a shock been told the news early yesterday morning. i will see how things pan out now.

I'm very sorry to hear this @mikeydt1 :( My father had mouth cancer also, diagnosed in his late-50s. He was operated on and was able to live an almost completely normal life until he was 86, so I hope that gives you some reassurance. I hope that everything goes smoothly with your treatment, take care {{{HUGS}}}

I have only just remembered a colleague had throat cancer which took a long time to diagnose, it turned out it was caused by HPV but she had treatment chemo and radio therapy and ran a half marathon 6 months after finishing her treatment, she is only 40 ish.
Hope you get some prompt treatment, they may have to make a mask to protect the other areas if you are having radiotherapy.

it is going to be important now that both my BP and BG levels are near to good for anything they want to do.

have started BP meds which has brought levels back down to a more safe area just the problem BG levels.

Hi Mikey, I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and hope you recover quickly. I was diagnosed with cancer of the uterus 5 weeks ago and was due to have surgery next Tuesday. My op has been postponed as my bg is over 80. I now have to get it down asap as the op is urgently needed. The anxiety is horrible and is on my mind 24/7 I'm sure it's the same for you. Sending you call my very best wishes. D

@Deborino - awww - horrid. Have they offered you insulin to try and reduce your HbA1c or if not, what? Vicious circle - inflammation anywhere at all in the body = increase in BG. Stress = increase in BG. Operation = trauma = increase in BG. {{{Hugs}}}

@mikeydt1 - Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. It's a horrible time for you.

Sorry to hear of this diagnosis and I wish you the best of luck.
Several patients registered with the surgery which employ me, have had oral cancer and are now doing well
