Mounjaro Help

Hi, quick question about Mounjaro.

I started it last week at 2.5, I primed the pen as instructed.

My question, the pen contains 4 doses, do I need to prime the pen before every dose?

I think I do but just want to make sure!

Thanks ☺️

It should have a Patient Information Leaflet in the box @MrsAA , but I would be very surprised if you didn’t have to. When on insulin injections I always had to prime, and that was injecting several times during the same day, not several days apart.

@goodybags - did you get told to prime before each injection?

It does have a leaflet and it says before use, but I don’t know if that means before every use..I’m sure it does but I just don’t want to get it wrong

Hi @MrsAA
hope you get on well with Mounjaro

Yes you do. Works like a dream...gets rid of rumbling tummies and food noise

I’d suggest reading the leaflet in the box of every single medication you take, including this one. It will tell you what to do.

With an insulin pen, the first time you use it you need to prime it more than on subsequent uses.
For my insulin pens, I need 6-7 units before a drop of insulin forms at the end of the needle on the first occasion, and 1-2 units on subsequent uses.

The Mounjaro KwikPen suggests you do two clicks, and press, and repeat until liquid emerges from the needle.
For the first use of the pen, I usually have to do this two or three times
and for subsequent uses, only the once.
The full usage instructions are also online and are very clear (more so than my suggestions!).

I never need more than 2 units to prime a needle usually just 0.5 units. If I don't get a drop of insulin with 2 units it is because the needle isn't screwed down far enough to fully pierce the rubber seal or the needle is blocked.
When I start a new cartridge, the insulin usually starts coming out as I screw the needle on, without even dialing up a unit! Must be my hot hands causing it to expand!

I’ve found that’s the case with my Novopen Echos, insulin comes out straight way, but when I used a Sanofi pen for my Lantus, I used to have to do 6 units at the start of a cartridge.

NovoPen Echos are just the best!
