A mother said she is “heartbroken” after a High Court ruled her 20-year-old daughter, who suffers a learning disability and autism, could be moved 230 miles away to Brighton because there are no facilities for her in Wales.

Claire Dyer is currently detained in a Swansea hospital under the Mental Health Act but comes home to see her parents and siblings almost every day and sleeps at the family’s home in Gorseinon regularly.

Her legal team, led by Irwin Mitchell, said that because of her condition she displays challenging behaviour when feeling stressed or threatened. They claimed that independent experts who specialise in autism say this is made worse when she is in restrictive care such as when she is at the hospital which does not have specialist support for her condition.
