Hi I have a problem whenever I increase the mg per day of my pain meds (Sevredol), my blood sugar goes from from a 7-8 to 15-19 mmol.
Is there anyone got the same or know how I can resolve my problem, also my carb diet does not change from day to day.
I know this is a question for the diabetic nurse, but I have only seen the nurse once and that was before the pandemic hit, and Google is no help

Thanks

Peter

Hi @abdnlad and welcome

An increase in blood sugar is probably more likely linked to an increased level of pain requiring a higher dose rather than the increased dose of Sevredol alone. Pain pushes your blood sugar up as your body responds with adrenaline and glucose levels rise. Trying to keep on top of pain levels is the best way to stabilise glucose levels but not always easy to achieve.

Does the Patient Information Leaflet have any reference to increase in blood glucose?

Sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having balancing your meds.

As forum members aren’t medically qualified we aren’t really able to do anything but share our own experiences unfortunately.

If you can call the Diabetes UK helpline on 0345 123 2399 (Mon-Fri 9-6) an adviser may be able to transfer you to a DSN for clinical advice?

On oromorph & zomorph. When my pain is bad i'm afraid my blood sugars are managed by the missus. Yes they do go high when in pain. In my case i'm glad its not the other way as i cannot get lucozade/glucose down. may get away with glucose gel on gums thats it. Personally don't beat myself up about it when in pain as getting rid of the pain becomes most important.
