Hi again,
I know it's only been a week since I was diagnosed but I've been reading a lot of the posts and I'm worrying a little (again - sorry) that my blood sugar levels are still really high... my nurse says not to worry at the moment and it'll fluctuate a lot while they look at patterns to see if i'm on the right insulin etc but i'm regularly over 13.0 and only a couple of times have I been under 8.
I know i'm lucky that I've not experienced a hypo yet (and hope not too) but I'm feeling like I'm not where I should be and want to be and i'm always too high and that scares me.
I guess I'm just after some reassurance??
Sorry to be going on again!

also sorry as the subject title isn't right - I guess it wasn't really a question afterall!

I am not a T1 but am aware that its better to bring the BS levels down gradually..im sure the T1 will be on to reassure you soon 🙂

Hi Hannah, it's only natural to be worried about the fact that your levels are still on the high side, but there is nothing to worry about during this early stage of your treatment. I spent my frst week after diagnosis in hospital and my levels went from 2 to 30 whilst I was in there! Within a few weeks though, with lots of input from the nurses, I had got my insulin doses close to what they needed to be and my levels were more often in single figures. In a few months I had learned how to adjust my doses myself and also how my favourite and most frequent meals would affect me, so I gradually gained better and better control. I have no doubt that you can achieve the same as the days and weeks go by. 🙂

And you don't need to apologise for voicing your concerns - it's one of the reasons we're here! 🙂

Hi
A tale for information

I went to the Dr with vey very bad athlets foot, on testing BG 33.4 - it remained about the 30 mak for a few days then over a short time dropped to about 15 from there it dropped to 9ish then to 7ish this was over a peiod of a couple of months.
Switched to a very low GI diet - drank gallons of water , popped the pills, had to contend with change in focus - new glasses, etc,
you just have to follow the guide lines you obtain, there is a lot of help on this site from people with a lot of experiance.

Regards Andrew

Aaawww bless you, it really is early days yet. Please try not to worry too much about your BS, you will get there, it will take a little while to get used to everything that has happened. It's a lot to take in and your DSN is giving good advice. Just take little steps at a time , stress can push the sugar levels up and you might continue to be up and down like a yoyo for a while longer. Don't be sorry at all, ask anything you like, theres always someone who has advice and support to give. Take care Sheena

Don't worry about asking questions, and there is no need to say sorry. It is natural to worry about anything new and it is naturl to ask lots of questions, keep asking the questions and the worry will start to ease.

On our forum there are people who have lived with diabetes for many years and everyone asks questions of forum members. Some of the questions I look at and think why didn't I think of that myself.

There's never a need to apologise for asking any questions, even if they turn out to be non-questions😉

Don't worry about being in the "teens" yet, it's early days as your DSN said. It takes a lot of adjustments to sort it and 1 week is nowhere long enough to have it "right".
Don't give up, you're doing well. Hugs
