Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Here's a good one. Not only do I live with Type 2 Diabetes (and not managing very well!!), but now it appears I've got Acid Reflux and a touch of IBS! Oh joy!!! Although it might not be because, according to GP who diagnosed me over the phone (!), a lot of the symptoms are also can be linked to Diabetes. Anyone else come across this before?

Welcome to the forum, Sammo68.

What are you finding difficult to manage about type 2 diabetes, acid reflux and IBS? There's lots of sources of wisdom on these boards, both personal experience and links to helpful webpages. So, do ask.

Hi Copepod!
The acid reflux / IBS was diagnosed this Tuesday so that's all new.
The T2D is a challenge mainly to my own failings - sweet tooth that I can't quit, portion size etc. Plus very mixed messages from DESMOND team when first diagnosed, changing "diabetic nurse" at GP (their action not mine), different advice from NHS professionals. Sometimes just too tired and frustrated to care. But I guess lots of people have days like that.

Hi Sammo, I moved this to the Newbies section so it won't get lost.

There's some bits of reading we can recommend for getting the hang of T2:

All of these are useful, no matter how long you've been diagnosed. Are you able to test your blood sugars?

Hi Sammo, welcome aboard !!

There always seems to be way too much information which is usually contradictory. Here you'll get advice from people who are going through the same thing, just pick and choose the best fit for you.

Remember, there are no silly questions, well there are but they're just the ones you didn't ask 😉

Hi Alison
Been diagnosed for over 4 years now and still fighting myself and my brain's desires for the wrong foods.
Guess it's something I need to keep battling for. It doesn't help much when at my DESMOND day they were recommending bread, pasta, rice and jacket potatoes. When I've learnt from experience that they are some of the worse things for my blood sugars in that as high carb products they carry VERY slow releasing sugars. Also doesn't help when trying to go healthy and have wholemeal / wholegrain bread and read the ingredients to see sugar added. Why?
I could go on and on (especially when Tesco "shouted" about supporting Diabetes UK when they sell the least amount of diabetic friendly products available!). But I won't take up more of your time.

Welcome to the forum sammo68 🙂

Hi sammo welcome to the forum. It is all a bit confusing especially with your new dx but I hope you settle down soon. There is lots of info on this site already if you do a search but people here are always ready to help.

Hello Sammo. 🙂

Prior to diagnosis I had lots of acid reflux. For me, it was down to being overweight and, like you, eating too much of the 'wrong stuff' (which, if eaten in reasonable quantities magically becomes the 'right stuff'!).

I strongly suggest that getting your diet sorted will probably ease many of your problems ..... but don't necessarily take my word for that .... however, it worked for me because I don't remember having any acid reflux for at least four years now.

Andy 🙂

Funny you should say that Andy ! At one time - a long time in fact - I virtually had shares in Rennies, I had heartburn so much.

then I lost some weight and Bingo. If ever I get indigestion of any sort now - it's a sure sign I have put weight on, and there is only one cure!

I feel sure in my own mind (even though I have no medical evidence to back me up LOL) that Acid Reflux is a physical sign of fat round yer internal organs - which ain't very good for anyone - diabetic or not. And the cure for that, once again - is DIET.
