I'm back again, feel like im on a rollercoaster and just want to get off :(

Was walking to my mums, big rush to go get some stuff for tea and get to hers. Bussed it to the shop but walked from the shop to her house all really briskly.
My sugar level had dropped from 18.1 to 11 which is fantastic...BUT

I had to text my mum for her to send my hubby to come and get me one the way to hers. I had gone really light headed, and was getting shaky and my heart felt like it was thudding in my chest. Got back checked my sugar level but obviously its not particularly low and its not really high either so what the hell is wrong with me.

I had a cup of tea and it warmed me up but now i just feel really tired :(

Any ideas what's going off :(

Even though you weren't hypo, it's quite a drop in a short space of time, probably why you felt it so dramatically, unless you might be coming down with something and not D related ?

Hope you feeling better now 🙂

It would be best if you could carry your meter with you so that you know what levels you are at when you feel funny. How long was it between feeling weird and testing ? things could have changed.

You may have been having a false hypo.

False hypos give you symptoms of a real hypo and they occur because your sugar levels have reached a level that you body is not used to. Its been used to running high so thinks you are low and acts accordingly.

If you had your meter with you you may have found it was lower than 11 when you felt this way.

I carry my meter with me but i don't feel comfortable doing it out in public :/ silly really i know and i only had one strip left i now have no strips and am having to ask a family friend for some strips to keep me going till tomorrow.

I still feel really tired but not as bad as before. will I have more and is it something i need to be worried about or should i just try and move past it when i have a false hypo, i didnt know there was such a thing tbh i have felt a bit shakey and light headed before when it has dropped quite alot.

I am sorry that you are having so many problems with supplies - a chemist may give lend you a box till you get a prescription - but you may get an argument from your Dr about how many strips.

If you feel that way you must test - the symptoms are those of a real hypo but when levels run high you can get them at non-hypo levels. However, you are not going to know if you are having a false hypo or a real one unless you test. As you get used to lower levels false hypos will disappear.

Why do I say you must test - because if it is a real hypo then you have to treat it. Have you been told how to treat a hypo ?

We're trying our best to get some strips from the only chemist that is open but they dont think they have any in stock for my machine :( had something to eat but feeling more and mroe tired, stomach felt unsettled after eating and felt a little light headed again.

Waiting for chemist to phone us back up to let us know if they have any in stock.

Just been told the only pharmacy open doesn't have any of the strips to fit my meter...

If I were you - I would call NHS direct for some advice as to what to do. Explain that you are recently diagnosed and that you haven't stabalised on treatment yet. You are feeling weird and can't test and see what they can advise.

I don't think i have a choice, husband, mum and brother have taken control, just praying they don't want me to go in now :(

If you are having a hypo or false hypo then treating it as a hypo should help.

However, still get yourself checked out as given this has happened twice in a couple of hours it would be best to have anything else ruled out.

Your family are worried about you and are just trying to take care of you. I know you don't want to go to hospital but if it comes to going you will be in the best place.

Hope that you get sorted soon.

By the sounds of it the first one was a false hypo, your blood glucose has gone lower than it's used to and told you so... Your second one could be the same or perhaps a bit of a panic attack with being unsure about levels, and not having test strips until tomorrow..

I would have a word with the hospital (A&E) if they use the same meter as you've got they will likely allow you to have some, if not if it's a large hospital it there should be an hospital pharmacy, where they can give you a prescription for you to pick up yourself or arrange the pharmacy to bring some over to the A&E if it's not open to general public.. And also they can check you out to ensure you'll ok...

But here's a trick for another time, if you get hypo symptoms another time, and you find that it's a false call... Most DSN will tell you to treat as a hypo and have 15g of fast acting carbs, as this will elevate the symptoms, rather than wait until the body sorts itself out.. Which is fine in some respects if most of the time you running in a good range but if you'll trying to reduce your over all bg levels to a good range, not very helpful..

What you can do is have a high protein snack, a chunk of cheese or a slice or two of meat, this can fool the body into thinking that you've treated the hypo elevate the symptoms of it, quicker than hanging in there for the body to adjust itself..

Don't worry about taking a blood test in public, 99% of the time nobody ever takes any notice of what you'll actually doing, it's pretty much the same with injections easy done sitting at a cafe table unless you've got a dress on, otherwise a little lift of t-shirt, jumper or blouse inject, most of the times its all happens below the table... And nobody is none the wiser, it is a very rare that anybody says anything, I've never had a word said to me at all in all the years I've been injecting or needed to take a BG reading...

Managed to get some strips after ringing the nhs found a chemist open near us but had to pay ?25 which they said they'd refund tomorrow when i take my perscription round.
Checked it and two hours after eating it is at 9.4 so its still coming down. Got the hubby keeping an eye on me tonight just had a bit of a snack to see how i get on and checking it again at 7.

Glad i don't have to go back in to hospital but eager to get something sorted so i udnerstand things better.

Glad you managed to get some strips.

You have had a pretty traumatic week - is there anything nice that you could do tonight - watch a favourite film, do some reading. You need some you time to de stress.

To be honest im just relaxing i don't think i'd last a film lol, i have felt really down today and tried my best not too, think im just getting fed up of feeling like im doing great and getting on a high and then ending up back feeling c**p, its like four steps forward and eight steps back. Just trying to look forward to valentines day but even with that the hubby is scared of buying us a bottle of wine and is having to fork out for atkins chocolates for me to make sure i don't have too much sugar, and how romantic is it gonna be me injecting myself before we settle down to watch film and god forbid if i have a hypo during night time exercise as it's called in another thread. It just all seems too much.
I just keep hanging on to your words that theres a light at the end of the tunnel.

Tell hubby not to worry about getting specialist chocolates - any high quality chocolates are fine as a treat, just eat them in moderation 🙂 Plain chocolate with a high cocoa content is best 🙂

A glass of wine is also fine. There's never a good time to be diagnosed and getting used to everything, always a birthday or celebration going on whenever it happens, so try not to let the diabetes spoil your enjoyment. A little of what you fancy does you good is a good rule to follow 🙂

You have done really well MR, now you can relax to some extent as you have covered all angles. Enjoy your evening and I nhope it all stabalises for you in the coming days.🙂

I can't thank you all enough for the help you have given me over the past few days, i know i seem to have a new problem every day but i literally left hospital with only the knowledge of how to inject myself and how much so i have really appreciated the help from you all.
Thank you all so much xxx

That's why we are here MR, to help you clarify all the confusion that we all felt at the start. In a short time you will be offering your own knowledge to help support others I am sure 🙂

Your welcome - its all very new and scary.

Diabetic chocolates tend to have laxative effects so its best to stick with the real thing - just don't eat too many at once.
