Well went to my surgery to collect refferal letters to Orthopaedic Consultant, this afternoon. Whilst there asked could they check when my next Daibetes check due , which he attempted to do and asked me which nurse I normal see and he replied oh she has retired at the end of March and they only have the one nurse at the moment doing all the Diabetics. I had seen they were advertising for a new Diabetic Nurse on the website due to retirement. My previous Diabetic Nurse had only retired the year before.
As my review is due anytime, i suspect it might be delayed with just one nurse. I have not received a letter asking me to have my bloods and book the appointment.
There have been so many changes at my surgery over the last few years, i like the GP I see but despite seeing her for 3 years, i feel we were still a work in progress. Previous one had been for 30 years and prior to that had been collegues.
My Asthma nurse left late last year due to the many changes that had gone on. Not meet the other one who taking over all the practices Asthma patients.
Intresting times. Though my surgery has had lots of changes it still seems better than the one around the corner to me where my friend goes and had to have 3 visits in 24 hours to have her medication reviewed and re-authorised.

I feel for you with all of these changes. I hope that you get your review soon.

Thanks. That is the problem when your Health Care professions are in the older age group. My Pharmacy is another one I fear retiring too! I suspect as it would be a 6 monthly one, that it might be pushed back.

Hi grovesy - I know where you're coming from on this - I learned only last week that my usual DN has moved to another Practice as she wanted to work more hours - I asked to make an appointment to see another nurse whom I've seen a few times but she has left the Practice too - also two Doctors have left so the three remaining Doctors are having to deal with more patients as they take over the panels of patients from their colleagues - and they are having to bring in locums to assist with the ever increasing demands of patients at the Surgery. Understandably its a nightmare for them.

Hence it is difficult to get an appointment when needed - so i have to know in advance when I'm going to be ill by at least 3-4 weeks! Having said all that - like you grovesy - I'm not inclined to change my GP - who incidentally took over from my previous GP of 25yrs when he retired early last year - better the devil you know! None of us like changes unless for the better.

I hope you don't have to wait too long for your diabetes & asthma reviews grovesy. x

The last GP to retire at my practise was not replaced, though he was not my favourite if i was really unwell i would have seen him. I am not due an Asthma reveiw i am usually only on annual, though my last was early as the nurse knew she was leaving so was clearing the decks so to speak. I am usually well controlled so not that concerned about the Asthma. It is the Diabetes as i am more concerned for as i am sure we have a GP with a Diabetes interest as that was the one who retired though i did not see him.
