Hi Guys,

Just out of interest, does anyone suffer from a total change in mood?? I have been a betic for about 3 months and I seem to encounter days where I could very easliy chew someones head off if they annoyed me! I wasnt like it before the diabetes kicked in!! Is this common or am I just being an Idiot??😛

Very common I'm afraid Kev - high, low or fluctuating blood sugars can have a negative effect on your moods. Hopefully, as you gain experience and manage to chip away at those lows and spikes you will feel much better! 🙂

Fluctuating blood sugars can quite easily cause mood swings.......I suppose the longer you have it the more your body can deal with it........

large highs and low lows definitely change my mood......

Cheers Guys, I'm happy to learn that its not just me!! My levels are up and down like a fiddlers elbow so that would explain it! 🙂

I do try to stop and think before I jump down peoples throats! Apart from those who deserve a good ear full of course! lol 😉

If my sugar level is too high for any prolonged period I could easily chew somebodies head off, then put it back on again so I could knock it off. Then keep repeating for fun lol:D

Fortunately people around me know this so if they detect my mood changing I am usually re-tested😉

Hi Kev I have had diabetes for a very long time, dont know if its actually associated in how I have been feeling, especially lately. Sometimes I'm like a volcano, other times very black thoughts and cant or dont want to see or speak to anyone and today, I dropped the can of white paint I was using and I just looked down at the mess, ( some went on the edge of the landing carpet) I went down stairs, took up the cleaning wipes, kitchen roll and white spirit and cleaned it up best I could, not even saying or mumbling a bad word, totally blank. I really hate the way I feel at times.

You are not an idoit at all.

Best wishes Sheena

Hey Sheena,

That very much sums up my mood at times!! All I seem to want to do is shut myself away! which is odd cause I am normally such a peoples!

As for your paint splillage, it sounds like you dealt with that alot better than I would have!! Fair play to you for being so calm about it 🙂

Thanks for the reply btw 🙂

haha awesome! so he is the one that shuts himself away! I like it 🙂

Oh yes & being female doesn't help the mood swings either.

When I'm hypo, I become very aggressive & it's not a pretty sight

When my bloods are running high, I'm not so bad

But when I'm having a "I hate being diabetic" day, my moods are very dark

haha it would be wrong of me to make coment on Lady mood swings!...but!!haha

I think my moodiness seems to start after I have treated a hypo! I get proper tired and assy with people! Mainly with the idiots i work with!lol

It isnt nice to hear that im not alone in my moodiness and grey looming clouds! Diabetes has got alot to answer to! :D

Ha it's ok, I've heard the jokes.
I'm having a hypo now with no signs & have become pissed off.

I think diabetes does have a lot to answer for but sadly we can't get answers to why it happens

I tend to get seriously grumpy when high...which is NOT helped by hubby suggesting (sometimes tactfully) that I should check my levels...hate it when he's right! :D😉

I can also get a very light, lovely floaty feeling, blissful & at peace with all the world...unfortunately this seems to occur between 5 and hypo on the way down. Makes me wonder if that is how 'normal' people feel all the time? (duagnosed too young to know!) 🙄

I miss being normal & not having to worry all the time about my sugars especially at bed time.

Think I took being normal for granted for 14 years

I often feel very down if my sugars are high. A counsellor once had me check my levels when ever I felt particularly low and v often they were sky high.

It's good to know I'm not alone! Highs andlows can make mr grumpy - and that's not even counting the days when I'm racked off with being diabetic! But being told to check my sugars just make me even madder!! 🙄

My hubby also retreats to the Xbox when I'm in a mood!

Wow so it would seem that none of use are alone in having a bad day! I am glad i asked now 🙂 I'm so new to diabetes and although I have some great people around me who care, I sometimes feel that they ask me about the it and how i feel, because they have to! Try as they might they never really understand it! But I guess only we will ever know! I do struggle to hold my tongue sometimes tho when i am having a moody minute and that really isn't what im about! so I end up feeling bad that I may have been off with someone! They know you have diabetes but they don't know that mood swings are all part of it! they don't really know anything!!..having said that, I'm still learning 🙂

So how often are your Hypos? and how low do they go?

So how often are your Hypos? and how low do they go?

My hypos are becoming more frequent, I went 2 years without one.
My lowest was 0.6 when I was in hospital, the nurses had to be shouted at by my mum to help me. The nurses on the ward didn't check my sugars & I wasn't allowed to do my own testing or insulin administration. They put me on a sliding scale after my hypo which was evil as I kept moving & the machine went mad.

That hypo it look an hour before I was conscious again & it knocked the stuffing out of me for several days.

I now do not trust nurses or hospital wards & refuse to be admitted unless its vital as I don't want to nearly die again
