In their manifesto they are going to boost the NHS with more money and more clinicians by reducing the administrative overhead (a ploy by Thatcher to implode the NHS ready for privatisation). GP receptionists will be redeployed the Border Force as they have particular skills at stopping people getting in!

Yup, that pretty much sums it up

Wow! What an old fashioned hurtful view.

The receptionist at my GP surgery do a thankless task humanely dealing with distraught patients who need an urgent appointment when none are available. In my experience, they try their hardest to provide appointments to those in need but, sometimes, the resources (more GPs) are not available which is not the fault of the people in the front line.

I cannot believe anyone would joke about the state of things at GP surgeries and blame the receptionist. It is certainly not a joke to them.

Sadly in this underfunded NHS the receptionist is seen as part of the problem regardless of fault.
A receptionist can't find an appointment when the doctor has no vacant spots. But that doesn't doesn't help a frustrated patient being told 'no, can't do it, try phoning tomorrow', particularly when faced with a firm 'talk to the hand' attitude.
The ones at my surgery have improved but that has been a recent thing - previously I would have been unable to say a positive word about them.

Get the Matrons back into hospitals, get rid of most of the management team and it will improve
