What do you think of Monster energy drinks? I'm trying the Lewis Hamilton sugar-free one. It tastes nice. Not too sweet. Opinions about them?

Even if sugar-free the caffeine might be an issue. Studies have shown that caffeine can lower insulin sensitivity and increase insulin resistance, which is why I only drink decaf coffee.

I didn't know that about caffeine. I usually have a few coffees in the morning.

What are you wanting the energy drink for?
They really are just a marketing gimmick to encourage you to part with your money in my opinion.

And yes, caffeine is a stimulant and in that sense it can stimulate the liver to output more glucose as it revs your system up. It may also increase BP which can be an issue for many people with diabetes, so probably a good idea to be aware of your caffeine intake, particularly if your BP is already a bit high.

I have one or two cups of ordinary coffee in the morning and then decaf for the rest of the day if I want any more.
Exercise will boost your energy levels probably better than the energy drink and do you more good. I have taken to running up and down stairs 10 or 20 times when my levels get too high and that doesn't take very long, burns calories, builds muscle, opens up your lungs and circulation system and certainly gives me a boost!

I just thought that I would see if I liked it. I haven't noticed any boost in energy levels. I like how it tasted.

Looking at the ingredients it looks very artificial with several different sweeteners and quite high caffeine at 160mg.
