Hi All

Just after a bit of background on what is 'normal' or abnormal!

During lockdown #1 in June I sent off a lab test for an HBA1C test and it came back very high and slap bang in the diabetes range (65.1 / 8.1%) - since it was during lockdown I didn't do a doctors appt or anything but decided to lose weight and go on lower carb and sugar program and keep testing my BS levels to see if I could help before getting all serious!

I was (and am) testing my BS first thing in the morning and 1 & 2 hours after eating. To start with they were very high sometimes going over 12mmol/l but a few months in and they were right down. In October having lost 2.5 stone (back to my weight in my 20s which was always very slight build so now around 10 stone!) and seeing my BS far lower I sent off a new HBA1C test and it came back as 34.41 / 5.3% which would seem to indicate (as well as my own testing) in remission or whatever you would want to call it.

I am carrying on testing my BS as above even so and am interested in what would be 'normal' BS peaks - so my peaks always seem to be at 1 hour after eating and prob the max I would get now would be something like 8.5-9 mmo/l if I ate a lot of carbs. After 2 hours this always comes down to something like 6-7 mmol/l. My fasting mmol/l is normally now around the 5 mmol/l mark.

So my question is the peak at one hour - would this be normal to be in the 8.5-9 mark for a non diabetic or would they still be much lower? Its very hard to tell on-line since the studies in non-diabetics seem scarce and even in the same studies they seem to contradict themselves!

Thanks in advance for any advice / info / experience!

Dave

8.5 - 9 at 1 hr after eating is consistent with levels non-diabetics can see.
