Relationship to Diabetes

Has anybody had occasional months where they miss a period or it's irregular/late? I'm definitely not pregnant and GP wasn't helpful when I brought it up, saying it was possibly stress or diabetes related and didn't specify further! I'm scared it may give me trouble when I want to have children, so any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
 
Hi there Cosmic Owl.🙂 The answer's "yes" but I'm 48 and starting the menopause, so a different situation from yours. 😱🙂
 
Have you had your thyroid checked recently? Underactive thyroid (often caused by autoimmune destruction as with type 1) is more common in people with type 1, and can lead to numerous other endocrine issues including irregular periods. Sorry your GP was dismissive - I'd suggest seeing a different one if you're concerned.

No idea how your diabetes management is but not managed well will cause problems amongst many other reasons.

Keep a note of what is happening and ask for a referral if worried or better still have a chat with your DSN to start with.
 
I haven't had it checked, no, my control is good so I will definitely talk to a different GP about it next time I go to the docs. I searched for the symptoms of an underactive thyroid on the NHS website and I seem to have the symptoms too, hopefully i'll be listened to this time! Thank you!

Another option to look at........ are you on any medication that cause a problem?
 
Your Thyroid function should be checked at your Annual Review. Ask for your most recent results and whether there are other tests that might shed light on things (thyroid can be tested in several ways I think)
