I got into work an hour ago and realised I have forgot to take my metformin.
Am I right to assume that I have enough in my system from my daily doses to be ok for missing it - I dont really want to drive home and take it 😱

My bs on waking this morn was 6.1 (little higher for me), but my two hr bs was 8.6 (I had half a wholemeal bagel for breakfast).

I was all sixes and sevens this morn, cause hubby is away and my sister stayed over night and made my morning coffee - hubby normally does this and put my drug box onto of my cup ready for when I poor the water.

I was also rubbish at what I should have been having fir breakfast - should have bought a couple of cheat pots of porridge yesterday and I forgot!!

I'm getting really forgetful 😱

Here's a link to a PDF of a sample Patient Information Leaflet for metformin - http://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/23787/PIL/metformin/ Should include advice about action if you miss a dose. If it doesn't answer your question adequately, then best to phone your pharmacist or NSH Direct 0845 4647.

Thanks for this copepod - will have a look.

ps I meet Julia on Saturday - the young lady you wrote about and recommended here to. She is lovely

Normally I've got away with it the few times that I have accidentally forgotten it - once this month and once last, both times in the evening.

Although I do find that sometimes it means that I have to run to the gentleman's powder room at some point :D

I have never had any ill effects from missing the odd metformin. The one offs don't do too much damages, it's just when it becomes a regular thing that it makes a difference.

I read the leaflet and I'm not gonna go home to take, I will just take my normal dose at tea time.

However reading the leaflet is interesting - I probably read it when I was first diagnosed and not read it since, but I didnt know this would happen with taking to high a dose - scary

The following effects may happen if you take too much metformin:
unexpected weight loss, feeling very sick or being very sick, very fast
breathing which you cannot stop, stomach pains or feeling cold. You
may have something called lactic acidosis.

You're welcome Dizzydi - I thought it was very unlikely that you'd have your metformin PIL with you as you usually take it at home. Always best to take official / professional advice, where possible.

Julia has mentioned the Manchester Meet to me - and says she'll try to post more from now on. Most of out communications are about livestock and adventure racing. We met at the park where I look after cattle & sheep, and for a bike ride another time, before she moved north. Not sure she'd consider herself a lady, let alone lovely, though!

This is an embarrasing thread 😱 but thanks Di. You are lovely too! :D Hope the missed metformin hasn't caused too much havoc.

Copepod, I am going to be a lady this weekend! My friend who I did the OMM mountain marathon with said if I made her do a two-day mountain marathon with no hairbrush/toiletries etc, she was going to make me wear a dress and go to a ball this weekend! I'll be having a make-over...

My doctor told me once, when I was unwell with no appetite, that I could go up to a week without my Metformin, so I can't see missing one dose would do that much harm.

Will be looking for photos! As you know, my approach for avoiding dressing up for Mess Balls was to volunteer to be duty officer so I could stay in trousers, shirt & jersey.
