A Westcountry MP has warned accident and emergency wards are at "breaking point", and urged ministers to "spend a Friday night in a town-centre A&E" to witness the crisis first hand.
Sarah Wollaston, the Devon GP-turned-MP, argues there are not enough community doctors in the NHS to prevent the "avoidable trip" to hospital, and called for community groups to be better funded to help take the strain.
The Conservative MP renewed her call to clamp down on binge drinking by introducing a minimum alcohol price, which would in turn reduce admissions.

Arrrghhh introducing a "minimum alcohol price".....I dont see how this would work.....have any of these people been to France / Italy / Spain / Portugal etc where you can get table wine at extremely cheap prices but somehow these countries dont have a problem with binge drinking, because its just not socially acceptable. It is not the norm to drink until you pass out.

Think minimum alcohol price *may* play a (limited) role in tackling this problem but the problem itself is far more complex. The only thing that happens is that the rest of us "non - binge" drinkers get penalized by having to spend more money on alcohol.
