Hi there and welcome to our support forum! we completely appreciate how overwhelming a new diagnosis can be. To get started off, you are very welcome to speak to someone on our helpline for guidance and emotional support. You can contact them on 0345 123 2399 or helpline@diabetes.org.uk 9am-6pm Mon-Fri 🙂🙂

Hi JDKS, welcome to the forum.

Glad that you've found us as most of us found thing confusing to start with but found it gets easier with time. Were you given any details when first diagnosed such as your HbA1c number which is your blood glucose level over an average of three months?

For type 2's, the food part can be particularly tricky as some of the information re a healthy diet isn't applicable. Essentially, many type 2's find that reducing carbs / sugar is key to managing their blood sugar levels. You can find out more on our main site https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/eating-with-diabetes/i-have-type-2-diabetes.

Exercise is helpful but it's better to take things one step at a time and getting a handle on an improved way of eating and small steps like an extra 10 minutes of 'activity'. per day is probably a good place to start for now.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like and we'll do our best to help.
