Does anyone else who suffers migraines find their BS levels rising? I woke up to a migraine and an 8.2 today (completely unheard for me, I am usually in the middle 5s). I have recleaned hands and retested and 8.1. Thanks

I don't know Carol, but I imagine there is going to be some kind of stress response to a migraine. I wouldn't be surprised if non-diabetics suffered slightly above upper-normal when experiencing one, although I doubt there's much data on that (unless someone knows better!). Do you take any medication that might affect BG, or is your test done prior to the medication?

I hope that you are feeling much better soon.

I get about 2 migraines per week and the other day decided to test myself in the middle of an attack. BS level was 6 so about spot on. I am a non-diabetic (it's my sons tester) so whilst 1 test isn't conclusive, it's all I have for now ;-)

Hope the mig is gone cazscot. Nothing worse than a lingering migraine.

You do seem to be getting an awful lot of these migraines Carol.:(
I do hope you get them sorted soon and feel much better.
Sorry I don't really know if they cause a rise in bs, but generally when you are ill, your bs goes up so it does make sense. Could it be the other way around and a rise in bs is causing the migraines?

Thanks everyone, found a lot of literature about low bs and migraines, but hey I suppose someone has to be different LOL 🙄. Had nothing to eat all day, was feeling too queasy and bs has dropped to normal (5.5) now going to have a snack.

And yep Lucy, it had been 4 weeks since my last one then ended up with one on Saturday and one today. I think the "stress" of not sleeping has caused these two as they both happened when I woke up with very little sleep I just need to get into a good sleeping pattern...

Do you take anything for the migraies? Hubby uses something called syndol. It will pay you to check with the pharnacist before getting them as they are quite strong. Just one knocks me out for several hours if I am ever unlucky enough to need them.

Hi cazscot,
I am sure that you have a plethora of drugs in the cupboard to deal with your migs, but following on from Caroline mentioning Syndol I thought that it might be worth passing on some of my experience with cures for migraines.

Syndol knocks me out as well but they do work. I tend to take them at night and they have the double bonus of helping me sleep.

I also use Paramol which is available over the counter, but is even stronger and shouldn't be taken for more than 3 days.

High doses of aspirin can work, but they play havoc with my stomach so be careful taking them.

You can get a 4head stick which doesn't get rid of them but helps me to cope with the symptoms.

Strangely enough, a strong cup of coffee or espresso also works for me as I don't usually drink caffeine.

Other than that, you should go to the docs and work your way through the many triptans that are available. For those who don't know, they are a type of drug designed specifically for migraines. There are about 6 different makes with a handful of application types. As to which one is best for you, unfortunately it is a matter of trial and error. I have settled with Rizatriptan which is the 4th that I tried.

Check out my migraine blog. I haven't updated it for a while but it has a few stories about my experience with the many types of cures and preventatives that I have tried. http://anothermigraine.blogspot.com/
