Might have forgotten Lantus?

When do you normally take it and what makes you think you might have forgotten? Do you normally take one injection or two? When I missed my lantus not so long ago I calculated how many hours I had missed and adjust the dose down accordingly, then took my normal dose at night. I made sure I had a 3 am check to ensure I didn't now have too much.

Hope it doesn't cause you any problems and you're back on track soon 🙂

Once a day users should take half the normal dose the following morning, forgot to take my lantus once and this was the advice of my dsn.

thank you, that was very helpful - like you it's not super high at this stage, (but I've been having loads of hypos recently) and can't remember taking it last night. Think I'll just keep checking and give proportionately less if it goes high. Thanks for support, good to prevent panic setting in!

My son (16) forgot once, so rang our out of hours number (it was a Sunday) and just happened to get a consultant. We were told NOT to take any Lantus until the following 24 hour allotted time as there would be overlap, even if we did only take half a dose. We were advised to check levels every 2 hours and start using rapid acting as correction doses, 1 unit for every 4mmol over 8. Then at his usual time for Lantus just take the usual dose of Lantus. He didn't rise above 10 all day, but then he was probably still honeymooning then.

hi I agree with the post above. I was advised not to take ANY lantus late, and to use my Novorapid for correction doses throughout the day. then carry on with the Lantus at the normal time, with normal doses.

Not sure if there is a wrong or a right though, as seems people have been advised differently!

Your call I suppose with which you feel more comfortable with.

I agree with whatever you feel comfortable with, but if I'm 8-10 hours late in injecting my lantus then I'd sooner inject half the dose than correct throughout the day with novorapid. The trouble with correction doses is the potential to overlap which can result in a hypo, not practical if you are active or drive in your employment.

Yes, I'd agree with toby there. I can see the dangers of possibly overlapping the lantus, but by using corrections then you'd probably end up on a bit of a rollercoaster. I guess it's one of those things where views on how to tackle it vary and both have merits and risks.

think I need to save these comments for future reference - in fact I did just correct with Novorapid, but my results are so errratic at the moment I'm not sure whether I had forgotten the Lantus anyway. Some good thoughts there folk!
