Tom Grossman, 38, of Midland, is a runner who competes in marathons, triathlons and duathlons - and he's also diabetic. On Thursday, he will be running across America with nine other teammates, who also have type 1 diabetes, on Team Type 1-Sanofi Running Team.
Team Type 1-Sanofi Running Team will be the first group of athletes with diabetes to attempt a cross-country run.
The team will run 3,000 miles in a 24-hour-per-day relay where each member runs in four to five mile intervals. Every day each person runs a total of 20 miles. The race begins in Oceanside, Calif., and the team plans to finish the run November 14 in New York City on World Diabetes Day.
