A month or two ago I enthusiastically posted about using miao miao with Glimp. I downloaded the app onto my smart phone and hey presto a nice graph and alarms from high or low or rapid change glucose.
Well I was unaware that my phone does not have NFC which is a requirement, so I think the system is just picking up the signal from the libre rather than acting as a CGMS in it's own right- which is still useful- nice graph and useful alarms, but I am now thinking of purchasing an android watch to use- which would presumably also allow me to use tomato or xDrip. I have not been able to download either of these on my smart phone. I do not want to change my smart phone at present. Would an android watch work independently of a phone? Also I wonder if I need to look for any specific requirements or whether any watch would suffice.... complete novice with technology here

Sorry, I don’t know anything about smart watches but I do have a Miaomiao (MM).
The MM converts the NFC to Bluetooth. The Libre is the part that has NFC. So your phone will be picking up the numbers for the Glimp graphs from the Bluetooth signal from your MM not the Libre. The Libre cannot work as a CGM.

I found Tomato app pretty useless and I have read some people avoid it because it stores your data in the Cloud hosted in China.

I used Glimp for some time but prefer xDrip. This is not available from the Google Play Store. You have to download and install it from github. There is a really friendly and helpful Facebook group for xDrip which includes the link to get the latest version of the app to download. The group can also advise about smart watches.

Thank you. It's a relief to know the miaomiao is actually working as I initially thought. I will look forward to exploring github and xDrip

You would have to pair your watch with your phone in any event. I suspect your holding out against a more recent android phone may be a forlorn hope. I stand to be corrected, I wouldn’t use Android products because of the shaky security.
