I missed taking my metformin last night :( I came home from an late night friend meeting but I’ve taken it this morning with my other medication

Missing one dose is unlikely to have many negative consequences.

On the contrary: It is almost certain to have ZERO consequences, since the effect of Metformin builds up over a period of weeks of use. There is almost no theraputic effect from a single dose!

I find wven missing a couple of days worth does not seem to make much difference to me,

I’ve not gone back to my full dose yet after my week off and my BG has remained flat.

I really ought to mention that to the DN perhaps!

As others have said, just missing one dose will not cause any problems. And everyone will occasionally be unable to or forget to take it, so it is nothing to be concerned about.

One day after my prescription ran out there was no effect, but the second day after it was noticeable (there is a graph in my recent thread). Maybe my body reacts differently, but it left my system a lot more quickly than it needed to show an effect again. So whilst I would not worry about missing one dose, I would warn against missing two days.

GPs rely too much on Metformin as a miracle med for T2. It does help a little bit and I still take it for it's other benefits (lower cancer risk etc?) but it never has that much effect on BS but helps.

When I asked my GP how Metformin works alongside diet and exercise. Her response was, 'oh it is far too early to come off it' As I hadn't asked that, it was simply me being curious. I decided not to continue with that line of conversation. But it is interesting to read all the posts re forgotten Metformin.

Enjoy your new gadget Sammy!
