Hi... Newly diagnosed I took my first Metformin tablet yesterday after lunch.
I also took an Amlodipine tablet as it was added for hypertension.
I woke up at 3am with the most exploding headache ... Could one of these be the cause or just a coincidence ... Thank you

Hello Paula.
Welcome to the forum.
I also take metformin. I don't take anything for blood pressure, so I'm not sure I can help you.
What I would say is that I did get some very bad headaches and a couple of migraines soon after diagnosis, but I think these were due to the changes I made to my diet, rather than to the metformin.
I'd suggest drinking plenty of water and see how you go. If the headaches become frequent, definitely give the doc a call.
Good luck with your journey x

Hi Paula.

I can't say that I've suffered headaches like that as a result of taking Metformin, but haven't taken the other one you mentioned. That's not to say it's not a side effect of either though. Metformin's main side effects tend to be gastro-related rather than anything else, although the extent of the side-effects does seem to vary a lot amongst the people who take it. If it keeps happening, check back with your GP. The weather lately is doing a good job of mucking up my head though, the high pressure isn't my friend.
