I have looked up Metformin on Wikipedia this morning and will be asking my doctor about taking it as part of my daily meds

When you go consider asking for the slow release version glucophage as it is better tolerated in most people. Also suggest starting on a low dose and building up as it can be tolerated better that way.

a couple of months ago you said you were on gliclazide and that when you had a high bg you took a couple of "glucor".

What is "glucor" and was there a special reason why you were on gliclazide before metformin ? Glic is only usually prescribed after a T2 has maxed out on metformin and still has problems.

I honestly don't know why I was on one before the other , I'm completely confused and desperately need it all sorting out , Glucor is a quick fix for a high count ie anything above 150

Although you're in France, you will probably find it useful to register (free) to use British National Formulary www.bnf.org - it lists all drugs licenced for use in UK, with both generic (start with a lower case letter) and trade names (start with capital letter and usually have (R) after name). In most cases, drug names don't vary much between European languages.

I'm not sure if France has an equivalent to NICE (England & Wales) or SIGN (Scotland) which recommends which drugs and otehr treatments to start in which situations, but perhaps HelenM can help?

Unfortunately, you can't register for the BNF from a computer in France.
This site gives all the manufacturers names of drugs in France.http://sante-az.aufeminin.com/w/sante/medicaments/alphabetique-g.html You can then find out what it is and look it up in English. Glucor is arcarbose.

The equivalent to the NICE guidance are the documents in the ALD 8 link I gave yesterday.

If you were slim and not overweight at diagnosis then that is probably why you were given Gliclazide before Metformin, particularly if you had lost a lot of weight right before diagnosis.
