I have manager get upto 3 tablets a day but suffer every day with diarrhoea. So went down to 2 tablets but still have diarrhoea but only in the morning??Should I go back to doctor? When diagnosed was given information leaflet and metformin and that was it?Just get on with it no advice or anything?Im not overweight so just looking for easy low sugar diet?

Welcome @Lorrsiedooll 🙂 It’s all carbs you need to watch not just sugar. So, depending on your current diet, you might need to reduce the amount of bread, cereal, potatoes, rice, pasta, etc that you’re eating.

Do you know what your HbA1C was at diagnosis?

And yes - DO get back to your GP as soon as possible because ordinary metformin frequently causes people gastric probs including wind (but people become afraid to fart unless they're actually sitting on a toilet seat) and sometimes, nausea so finding difficulty in eating anything - ridiculous. There's an easily available solution, in that people also frequently tolerate the 'slow release' version of metformin. They don't just automatically prescribe the slow release ones because they cost more - and the ordinary ones don't have a continuing bad side effect on everybody.

If you do that AND reduce the carbohydrate in your diet you should feel a heck of a lot better all round anyway - and then find yourself able to plan ahead more successfully and who knows? get your T2 into submission and so not need the tablets any more!

Have a look at this link for an easy Low CARBOHYDRATE dietary regime. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
And yes go back to the GP re the metformin. Maybe if you reduce your carbs then you may not need a higher dose if any at all.

Sorry to hear you are still experiencing an upset stomach on the Slow Release Metformin :(

Since these symptoms don’t seem to be settling down, you might find it helpful to go back to your Dr and discuss things. There may be an alternative medication you could try?

Making some adjustments to your menu can help in the meantime. Hope you find it helpful to share experiences with folks on the forum - it doesn’t sound like you got all that much support or information from your surgery? :(
