I've been on metformin 2000mg per day for the past 6 weeks and have definitely lost weight.
Is this common - has any anyone else experienced this?

Have you been aware of eating less @PGW ?

Is weight loss a goal of yours?

Metformin can help people to lose weight, but it isn’t specifically considered to be a weight-loss medication. It works by reducing glucose output from the liver, and can help improve your sensitivity to the insulin you are producing.

If you are concerned about your weight loss, it would be wise to book an e-consult with your GP surgery, or make an appointment.

Metformin doesn't usually lead to a measurable weight loss. It's always possible you are not T2 but late onset T1. Are you slim or been losing weight before being prescribed the Metformin? If so do consider asking your GP for the two T1 tests.
